Best Flashlight Ever!!!,
The best flashlight ever!
The Insight Technology HX120 out performs all flashlights in its class, (And by that I mean you SureFire).
To me the Smart Power Technology programmable switch is the selling feature. By depressing and holding the on/off switch one can set the desired output (1 to 120 lumens). The blinding strobe and SOS signal flash are just icing on the cake.
Finally, Insight Technologies life time warranty will make this the last flashlight you will ever have to buy.
The choice is yours but my choice is the Insight HX120.

|Great LED Tactical Flashlight for the Price!,
The HX120 is the second Insight flashlight I have purchased and the first one that uses a single battery. I had carried the HX150 (the two cell version) on duty for many years and was looking for a smaller back up light.
The amount of light that it produces is amazing for the price (I purchased this one for around $45 here on Amazon, which is around $90 less than the suggested retail price.) The light is bright and the beam throws a good distance. The flashlight housing is solid and very resistant to damage. I recently moved and the power was out in parts of the house; I used my little HX120 for hours on end. The adjustable brightness increased battery life and helped the light be more flexible for different circumstances (such as lowering the beam to use in the bathroom while brushing your teeth). The bright beam helped me conduct searches of boxes in the dark garage and conduct repairs in the dark. I even dropped the light onto the tile or concrete floor several times, which would have spelled doom for an older flashlight, but the HX120 just kept on working.
The light itself is a good portable size, but it was slightly larger that I thought it would be for a single cell light. Additionally, the color of the light is warmer than most newer tactical LED lights, which are very bright white. I did a side by side comparison with another one cell tactical LED light and the HX120 performed very well in comparison, despite the fact that the other light cost $180. The finish is rugged and should last a lifetime; it didn’t show any signs of wear even from multiple drops onto hard surfaces. The tailcap switch has a positive response and “click” when switching on or through the different operating modes. The size of the light and it’s crenelated bezel make for a good defensive option if necessary. The battery life is average given the brightness of the light, but can be increased by effective utilization of the dimming function.
I only have a couple of complaints about the design of the light. One, the tailcap switch protrudes from the bottom of the light. This may be an advantage in a tactical situation (easy to find and operate), but when I tried to stand the light on it’s end to light a room (i.e. like on the bathroom counter or on a table), it would not stand, I had to lay it on it’s side, which is not as effective in that set of circumstances. Two, I would have preferred the pocket clip either be reversible or be pointed down; that way someone could clip the light to their shirt or pocket and have it light what is in front of them for hands free operation. As it is, the light points up when clipped. I also prefer the downward facing clip so that it fits better in the pocket with the lens facing down and protected.
Overall, for the price, I am exceptionally happy with this purchase and plan on trying to pick up a couple more for the rest of my family or as backup lights for my backpacks and such. If I had paid full price then my expectations would have been higher, but in the $40-$60, this is an exceptional light with performance and toughness well beyond the price! I have had dealings with Insight’s customer service in the past and they have always been professional and helpful with either repairs or replacement.
